Who We Are

Mitra Jyothi is a registered trust located at Bangalore, Karnataka and has been working for people with disabilities in general and visually impaired in particular, since 1990. Ms. Madhu Singhal founded Mitra Jyothi in March 1990. Mitra Jyothi’s mission is to assist visually impaired individuals and enable them to lead independent and dignified lives through Education, Training, Counselling and Communication & Technology so as to integrate them into mainstream families and the society at large.

Our Programs

Education Resource Centre


The ERC supports the education of people with vision impairment by providing them accessible reading material. “Accessible Reading Material” means books in the form of eText, ePub, DAISY (audio), mp3 and Braille formats.

Independent Living Skills


Independent Living Skills is the most fundamental hands-on program at Mitra Jyothi that enables persons with visual disability to initiate self-reliance and instills confidence in them.

Computer Training Centre


The Computer Training Centre imparts basic and advanced computer literacy training to visually impaired students, from those with low vision to those who are totally blind.

Placement Cell


The Placement Cell provides job placement assistance to people with various disabilities including people with orthopedic disabilities, speech and hearing impairment and vision impairment.

With a focus on women empowerment, Mitra Jyothi has set up the "Centre for Empowerment of Women with Disabilities" in Electronics City, Bangalore.

Building Awareness
